Submissions for the Horizon Issue 09 are OPEN! The deadline for submissions is MIDNIGHT February 28th, 2026.
At Horizon Magazine each edition is a combination of visual and literary media. We aspire to blend our submissions in a way that allow pieces to play off each other, complement, and contrast. We accept submissions of:
- Art and Photography [suggested < 10 pieces]
- Poetry [maximum 5 poems]
- Short Fiction + Drama [maximum 3 submissions, 2500 word limit each]
- Essays [5000 word limit]
- Short Film and Documentary [20 minute limit]
- Soundscapes [10 minute limit]
Submissions that do not follow the guidelines and limits will be immediately rejected.
Please send all submissions within a single email to contacthorizonmagazine [at] gmail [dot] com with your name and format in the subject, e.g. ‘Max Power – Photography’. If you are sending multiple media as separate submissions (i.e. a submission of 3 poems and a submission of 10 photographs, or a submission of poetry and a short story) please send these as separate emails.
For art and photography: please change the file name for each submission to ‘firstnamelastname_title’ e.g. ‘PabloPicasso_Guernica’.
Please format text submissions in 12pt font, and for prose pieces please justify the text and use double spacing. Feel free to use any font you desire, but bare in mind, the font and formatting of the text may be altered in the design process. It is preferable to receive submissions as Word documents but PDFs are acceptable as well.
For submissions of art and photography, attach all pieces to the email or link us to an online portfolio. Please avoid the use of temporary hosting sites/download links such as WeTransfer. If using an online portfolio, please guide us towards a selection of your pieces.
We look forward to receiving your work.
The copyrights of artworks/literature remain with the artist/writer, by submitting to us you are granting us a non-exclusive free license to print and distribute your work within the printed edition of the magazine, on our website and on our social media pages. For any further uses of your work ( future issues, marketing etc. ) we would be in contact to explicitly ask for permission. We require the artist/writer to own the copyright to their works and to have not granted an exclusive licence elsewhere.
